Born of water
Abysse is a family. It began with the mother-and-daughter duo behind the brand, Hanalei and Raphaele. With a shared vision, they launched Abysse in 2015. Since then, the brand has grown alongside a wider community — a collective of water people who live, move, and create with intention.
Hanalei, born and raised in the islands of Tahiti, and her husband Patrick Gudauskas, raised on the beaches of Southern California, have lived their lives shaped by the ocean. Rooted in different cultures yet united by the same elements of performance, lifestyle, and respect for the sea, they bring their shared values into every aspect of Abysse.
Now raising the next generation, they understand the ocean as a sacred place — one of learning, growth, and connection.
At Abysse, our actions are our voice, and our brand is a reflection of our commitment to life in and around the water — now and forever.
